# MCP server

> Connect Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients to your team's inbox

The MCP server exposes every [API v2](/v2/concepts) operation as a tool. An AI client can list threads, read messages, update contacts and send messages from your accounts.

## Server URL

```
https://mcp.inboxapp.com/mcp
```

## Authentication

Two ways to connect:

| Method | Use it when | Messages show as sent by |
| - | - | - |
| **Sign in** | Your client supports OAuth, as most do | The agent, on your behalf |
| **API token** | The client only takes headers, or runs unattended | The API token |

### Sign in

Add the server URL to your client. It opens Inboxapp in your browser, where you pick the team to connect and approve access. No token to copy.

Review or disconnect connected apps in **Settings → Integrations**, under **Connected apps**.

### API token

Pass an [API token](/v2/configuration/authentication) in the `Authorization` header.

## Client setup

### Claude Code

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http inboxapp https://mcp.inboxapp.com/mcp
```

### Claude Desktop

Open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** and enter the server URL.

### Cursor

Add to `.cursor/mcp.json` in your project root:

<CodeGroup>
  ```json Sign in theme={null}
  {
    "mcpServers": {
      "inboxapp": {
        "url": "https://mcp.inboxapp.com/mcp"
      }
    }
  }
  ```

  ```json API token theme={null}
  {
    "mcpServers": {
      "inboxapp": {
        "url": "https://mcp.inboxapp.com/mcp",
        "headers": {
          "Authorization": "Bearer <INBOX_API_TOKEN>"
        }
      }
    }
  }
  ```
</CodeGroup>

## Tools

Each API operation is one tool, named after the operation: `threads_list`, `messages_send`, `contacts_update`, `platforms_list`. A tool takes the operation's path, query and body fields as its arguments, and returns the same JSON as the API.

| To do this | The client calls |
| - | - |
| See what each platform supports | `platforms_list` |
| Find a person | `contacts_list` |
| Read a conversation | `threads_list`, then `messages_list` |
| Send a message | `messages_send` |
| Update CRM state | `contacts_update`, `contacts_addTag` |

Read tools are marked read-only, and deletions are marked destructive, so clients can ask before running them.

<Warning>
  Sending, editing or deleting a message reaches a real person from your own
  account. Keep confirmation on for write tools.
</Warning>

## Limits

MCP calls count toward the same [rate limits](/v2/reference/rate-limits) as the API, and fail with the same [error codes](/v2/reference/errors).
