# Messages not syncing

> Check the Chrome extension, XChat PIN, sync timing, and IndexedDB when DMs don’t appear in Inboxapp.

If messages aren’t appearing in Inboxapp, work through these checks.

## 1. Chrome extension

* Confirm the [Inboxapp Chrome extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/inbox/manipndiogdfeenejomojogbbcbenioe) is installed.
* On x.com, use the correct X account.
* Confirm the **Inboxapp floating icon** appears. Missing icon → reinstall the extension.
* Click the icon → select the account → **Link**, or reconnect under **Linked Accounts**.

Full checklist: [Chrome extension troubleshooting](/help/troubleshooting/chrome-extension-troubleshooting).

## 2. Browser basics

* Fully quit and reopen Chrome.
* Remember large inboxes can take hours; small ones (\<100 contacts) are usually fast.
* Sync continues in the cloud — you don’t need to keep the browser open.

## 3. XChat PIN

Encrypted XChat conversations need your **XChat PIN**. Without it, those messages can’t sync — [What is XChat](/help/getting-started-with-inboxapp/what-is-xchat-and-how-use-it-with-our-platform).

## 4. Clear IndexedDB (advanced)

Use this when the extension is linked but sync stays stuck.

1. Open **x.com**.
2. Right-click → **Inspect**.
3. Open the **Application** tab.
4. Under **Storage → IndexedDB**, delete Inboxapp / messaging entries.
5. Close DevTools and refresh.

This clears local browser data only — your messages in Inboxapp remain.
