# XChat and your PIN

> XChat is X’s encrypted DM experience. If Inboxapp asks for your XChat PIN, enter it so encrypted conversations sync.

XChat is X’s encrypted direct messaging experience. Inboxapp syncs XChat conversations like any other DM.

## When you're asked for a PIN

If your X account uses XChat, Inboxapp asks for your **XChat PIN** after you link the account. Enter it once; Inboxapp handles the rest.

X requires the PIN for third-party apps to read XChat messages. Without it, encrypted conversations can't sync.

## Security

* Messages and PIN codes are encrypted on our servers.
* Only members of your team can access synced messages.
* We never store your PIN in plain text.
