# What is XChat and how to use it with Inboxapp

> XChat is X’s encrypted DM experience. Link your account and enter your XChat PIN so Inboxapp can sync messages.

XChat is X’s encrypted direct messaging experience. Inboxapp supports XChat so your conversations can sync into your workspace.

## Link your X account

1. Go to **Linked Accounts**.
2. Select **Connect X Account** and complete authentication.
3. When prompted, enter your **XChat PIN**.

The PIN lets Inboxapp sync your XChat conversations. Your PIN and messages are encrypted on our servers.

## Why the PIN is required

X requires the PIN for third-party apps to access XChat messages. Without it, Inboxapp cannot retrieve or sync those conversations.

## Security

* Messages and PIN codes are encrypted on our servers.
* Only you can access synced messages through your workspace.
* We do not store your PIN in plain text.
