# Create your first campaign

> End-to-end: pick a lead list, write a DM, set schedule options, launch, and check stages.

Campaigns send DMs from a linked X account to a lead list. You need **Pro** and a connected X account — [Plans and credits](/help/billing/billing-plans-and-credits).

## Before you start

* [Link an X account](/help/account/how-to-add-an-x-twitter-account-to-inboxapp)
* [Create a lead list](/help/leads-management/organize/create-your-first-lead-list) with reachable leads
* Optionally exclude **Contacted** so you don’t re-message people — [Prevent duplicate messaging](/help/campaigns/limits-and-safety/how-to-prevent-messaging-leads-you-ve-already-contacted)

## Steps

1. Open **Campaigns** → **New Campaign**.
2. Name the campaign and choose your **lead list**.
3. Under **Excluded Lists**, add **Contacted** if you want to skip anyone you’ve already messaged.
4. Write your first DM. Insert variables (for example first name) from the custom variable control — [Personalize with variables](/help/campaigns/build/personalizing-dms-with-custom-variables).
5. Optional: **Add Step** for follow-ups with delays — [Multi-step sequences](/help/campaigns/build/how-to-design-multi-step-dm-sequences).
6. Set send window / timezone options if needed — [Scheduling across time zones](/help/campaigns/build/scheduling-campaigns-across-time-zones).
7. Review and **Launch Campaign**.
